Why Travel from Pittsburgh to Avoca for Ketamine Therapy?

The Good Drop ketamine clinic in Avoca, PA, is less than five hours from Pittsburgh. You might wonder what’s in it for you to make that trip away from your home base to our small town in the Northeast.

Here’s why The Good Drop is worth your time.

Quick, Convenient Scheduling

The Good Drop is proud to offer fast and efficient patient scheduling at our Avoca clinic. It’s usually about two weeks from when you contact us to your first ketamine infusion.

  1. Our nurses are happy to speak with you first so you fully understand what ketamine does and how it can help.
  2. We then schedule you for a phone consultation with our staff physician, Dr. Russell E. James II.
  3. Following the consultation, we schedule you for treatment within a few days.

The Pittsburgh metropolitan area is much more populous than the Wyoming Valley where we are in the Northeast. We’re talking about a difference of more than 2.3 million people in and around Pittsburgh versus around 567,000 people in the Wilkes-Barre and Scranton region.

That’s why getting in for ketamine treatments at The Good Drop is so fast and efficient.

Accepting Health Insurance

The Good Drop proudly accepts numerous health insurance plans to cover your ketamine therapy.

We know not all ketamine clinics are willing or able to work with insurance to provide their services.

That isn’t how we operate. We opened in 2023 to expand access to quality mental healthcare here in Northeastern Pennsylvania and throughout our state and region.

For those without health insurance, we offer flexible, interest-free payment plans. All we want is for you to get the help you need, when you need it. If you’d like to receive ketamine therapy with us but are concerned about the cost, talk to us. We will do everything in our power to get you the treatments you need.

For your reference, one ketamine infusion costs $400, three cost $375 each, and six cost $350 each.

Clean, Peaceful Environment

We believe every patient deserves a peaceful, quiet, sanitary, and private space to reflect and heal during a ketamine

infusion. Our facility offers numerous private infusion rooms for your comfort.

Rest easy in big, comfortable recliners with mood lighting, your own personal music-streaming device, eye masks, blankets, and a nurse always just a call bell away if you need anything.

Genuine, Compassionate Care

We exist to provide you with the best mental healthcare you’ve ever received. That’s our only agenda.

When you’re a patient here, you are free to be completely honest with us about your mental health and personal history. It is not our place to judge, make assumptions, or try to push you into treatments you don’t need or want.

Our nursing team – co-owners Kelly and Mara – have extensive backgrounds in emergency and trauma care. They’ve seen it all and want only what is best for you. If you’ve had some tough experiences along your mental health journey so far, rest assured you can come here, be yourself, and begin genuinely healing.

Strict Safety Protocols

We provide ketamine therapy by the book, with all safety protocols in place, including:

  • Collecting your medical history – including mental and physical health – prior to treatment.
  • Identifying any disqualifying medical conditions, such as untreated hypertension, active mania, or active psychosis. Ketamine can make these conditions worse.
  • Administering ketamine in the proper dosage – 0.5 mg/kg of body weight – so you experience the intended healing effects.
  • Monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate during your sessions.
  • Checking in regularly during infusions to ensure the dissociative effects of ketamine aren’t overwhelming you.

If you have questions about the safety or experience of ketamine therapy, just ask!

Informed Consent and Education

Before every ketamine session, we have you read and acknowledge educational material regarding ketamine and its potential side effects and then sign a consent form. This officially documents that you are receiving ketamine by your own choice and understand how the drug will temporarily affect you during your session.

You are always free to ask us any questions at all about this!

Integrative Approach

We see ketamine as just one tool you can use to improve your mental health. Integration therapy can be another valuable part of your journey, and it’s a treatment we fully support here.

With integration, you can regularly speak with a certified ketamine-assisted psychotherapist who is experienced with ketamine therapy and understands what the treatment is like. Your therapist can sit in your session with you, help you set intentions, and generally guide you during your journey.

You can also meet with your therapist between sessions to dive deeper into the issues that arise during your infusions and ultimately get the most benefit out of them. For all our Pittsburgh patients, telehealth appointments with your ketamine-assisted psychotherapist are available!
