The Good Drop Patient Success Story: Michael

It’s so humbling and gratifying for us to see our patients succeed here at the Good Drop.

Time and again, our practice welcomes in people who have been suffering for years with mental illnesses, chronic pain, and numerous other issues. And time and again, those patients report to us how much better they feel after just a few ketamine infusions, where conventional treatments such as painkillers, antidepressants, and therapy haven’t worked.

After more than a year of providing ketamine therapy to the residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania and well outside of here, we’ve started documenting our patients’ success stories to share with all of you: our other patients, followers, and the general public.

We hope learning about our ketamine therapy from the people it has helped gives you a fuller understanding of this potentially life-saving healthcare treatment. These stories may even inspire you to investigate ketamine more closely for your own struggles. We’d be happy to talk with you!

And now: Michael’s story.

Getting Here

Michael was one of our first patients at the Good Drop. He started coming to us in January of 2024, after we’d been open for about a month.

Michael had been suffering from anxiety, severe depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain for many years. Nothing he tried helped him, and no doctor could figure out how to ease his pain using the traditional methods.

Even when Michael first heard of ketamine therapy, it took some convincing from a friend to get him to try out an infusion, as he was afraid of becoming addicted (we’ll note here the risk of becoming addicted to medical-dose ketamine in a healthcare setting is extremely low).

As Michael himself admitted, his temperament at our clinic at first was, understandably, less than agreeable. The long frustrations of chronic pain and depression had led him to develop an angry streak. Still, he stayed focused on the potential solution in front of him, staying cautiously optimistic about things.

“I came here with an open mind,” he told us, “expecting nothing.”

First Signs

We asked Michael when he started noticing any difference in himself after receiving ketamine. “When I got home after infusion #1. Mentally, no. But pain-wise, yes.”

Michael’s state was so dire in the beginning that he required weekly infusions. But after about five weeks, he started scheduling them out less frequently. The therapeutic effects of the ketamine were lasting longer between infusions, and Michael felt he simply didn’t need to return as often.

He recounted how, around this time, he was standing in a deli and could sense things changing in his brain, the ketamine taking effect. Michael called it his “epiphany” and just had to call to tell us about it (a call we loved receiving).

Michael Today

Michael has received dozens of infusions by this point (usually while jamming to the Grateful Dead), but he says that these days, he rarely even thinks about scheduling future sessions.

“For the first couple days after an infusion, I have tremendous relief from chronic pain. And as time has gone on, and I’ve experienced this more, the girls call me, wondering where I am! This place is heaven for me. I mean it. Half of it is obviously the ketamine. The staff is the other half. They’re past ‘wonderful.’ These ladies have continuously helped me, tremendously. They’ve taught me like a student. It’s amazing how one little gesture can go a long way.”

The treatment’s benefits have gone beyond Michael’s pain. “The ketamine has stopped me from being so angry,” he said. “My anger now is just pain. I don’t hate anybody. I definitely do not want to hurt myself or anyone else. My thoughts are all positive.”

And what would Michael say to those considering trying ketamine therapy for themselves?

“This medicine is a godsend, but you have to come here with an open mind. It’s mandatory, in my book.”

The Good Drop’s Patient Approach

It goes without saying that Michael’s patient success story is one of many we’ve been privileged to witness here at the Good Drop.

What Michael has gone through in his wellness journey so far can bring us to tears sometimes, but this is exactly why we opened our clinic.

We use ketamine therapy and other evidence-based treatments to promote optimal health and well-being for those suffering from chronic pain and mental health disorders. We believe in treating our patients holistically by addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of health.
