Mara Capozzi RN, CMO

How did you come to work with The Good Drop co-owner and CEO Kelly Wilson, RN, and Dr. Russell E. James?

Mara Capozzi: Kelly and I have worked together since 2012, when we were both at Military and Veterans Affairs at the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center in Scranton. Since then, we have become best friends and work-wives, never having another job apart again.

I had a great working relationship with Dr. James while in the emergency room. He taught me many very useful tools of the trade and is a great doctor to learn from.

The three of us as partners at The Good Drop made great sense with our working relationships, thirst for knowledge, and desire to help our community.

What is your philosophy of care as a co-owner of The Good Drop ketamine clinic?

Mara Capozzi: We as a whole are here to benefit the community. We all have strong ties to this area and are looking to bring new resources to people in need. I care about each and every patient that we have formed a relationship with and am willing to go above and beyond to get them the help they need.

What do you enjoy about working in ketamine therapy?

Mara Capozzi: It is nice to be able to follow through with these patients and see the difference we are making in their lives. We have seen amazing quality-of-life improvements. I also love learning about medications and how and why they work.

What got you started in healthcare?

Mara Capozzi: I first got into healthcare after having a great hospital experience while having my twins. I became a certified nurse’s aide and worked at the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center.

Wanting to advance my career, I enrolled in the registered nursing program at LCCC. During that time, one of my twins was diagnosed with leukemia. The support I received from my peers and the experiences I had while on clinical rotations sparked my interest and passion for emergency medicine.

After school, I went right into the emergency room.

What did you learn from working as an emergency room nurse?

Mara Capozzi: ER nursing made me hone in on my skills and made me cool under pressure. Working in a fast-paced environment can be stressful, especially when dealing with critical illness. I’ve learned to work quickly and efficiently while still displaying compassion.th

What drives you in your healthcare career?

Mara Capozzi: I love helping people in times of need. It is rewarding when you truly feel as though you made a difference in someone’s life.
